How Lizard People
and
Space Lasers
Dismantled my Christian Worldview
How much do you know about Lizard People?
The Flat Earth?
The impending resurrection of John F. Kennedy?
Unfortunately for a lot of us living in a post-COVID and post-truth America, the answer is simultaneously “more than we’d like” and “less than we should.”
Once the pandemic started, my closest friends and family unashamedly consumed and shared conspiracy theories of ‘Jewish space lasers,’ ‘5G radiation cults,’ and, of course,
‘Biblical end times.’ As I sifted through their fears and claims, my fractured explanations fell on deaf ears. I was desperate to de-radicalize my loved ones, but found no easy solutions.
Taking Off the Tinfoil Hat is my personal journey of deconstruction.
- It’s a critique of the modern evangelical church and its legacy of misogyny, racism, and politicization.
- It’s a critique of the whitewashing of American history and the manipulation of national pride.
- And it's a warning commentary on current events and their parallels to historical Fascism.
More than anything it's a tale of commiseration and a record of life in these 'unprecedented times.' I am just one of the millions of exhausted realists who lost loved ones not to COVID, but to the rabbit hole. One of many now desperately searching for support and an explanation. We are not alone, and I refuse to accept we are powerless.
